Please excuse the short length of this review. There isn't very much to say about this movie.
Let's just start off by saying that this film is very, very, very loosely related to The Mummy series. While it does at one point in the piece explain how The Rock becomes "The Scorpion King," it doesn't really explain how he attains super-human powers during the aforementioned Mummy series. In fact, this movie has only the name of "Scorpion King" in common. One could just as easily replace the scorpion with a kitten. That's how much bearing the story told in this movie has on The Mummy, which by all logic and common sense obviously happen after this movie on a timeline.
The characters are fairly well cast, with The Rock as the starring role. While he's not the greatest actor, or another Arnold Schwarzenagger, he does play the role of a muscle bound warrior very well, and scenes where he actually has to act are limited and few. Many of the other characters are your run of the mill, average character that all action films seem to have these days.
Much of what happens throughout the movie is obvious, and you can see it coming from a mile away. There's nothing you really have to pay attention to in the fear that you'll miss some important problem solving fact later on in the movie. It's very straight-forward, average action flick.
The music doesn't seem to fit well for what's happening at the time, more often than not. Instead of your typical ominous, orchestrated selections for battles and intense one on one combat, the makers of the film decided to go with modern metal acts such as Godsmack. It just doesn't fit. I suppose they were just trying to appeal to a wider variety of folks by using such music.
Final Score - 2.5 (out of 5)
Nothing is overdone aside from the cheese in this movie. Nothing that happens will surprise you, except how overacted much of the movie is. This is a movie for Rock fans, or those who have a very short attention span.
