The Day of the Concert

OK well this week I was GOING to do a boring ass

column on punk comp CDs, but then last night I

had a startling revelation. Since my column is

called Straight Outta the Pit I figured I would

do a concert review of the show I went to last

night.

3:26 P.M. I called up my friend Lindsay who would

be accompanying me that night. I told her to meet

me out front of the Palladium at like 7:00.

3:45 Called my cousin up. He was my ride to the

show. He had not gotten home yet. Panic ensues.

4:00 My cousin calls me back and we make

arrangements to leave at about 4:15.

4:15 We are on our way to the show (which by the

way was No Motiv, Hot Rod Circut, Dashboard

Confessional, and the Alkaline Trio).

6:45 We arrive at the club after a 2 hour drive.

We got lost in down town scum ho..... errr

Worchester MA. The guy at the gas station who was

obviously drunk and only had 3 teeth pointed us

in the right direction. Sir if you are reading

this kudos to you.

7:00 I meet my friend out front. She brings her

friend with her. We all go in to the club.

7:20 We have established a good spot on the

floor. The show was supposed to start 20 minutes

ago, but you know how these things are.

7:25 The lights go out and No Motiv takes the

stage. I notice a small pit forming and I head

over. It was only some fat kid and some girl

doing some retarded dance. Another kid took the

liberty of knocking the fat ass over thus causing

our first good pit of the night. I got an elbow

to the throat and almost got the wind knocked out

of me. No Motiv put on a good show for an opening

band. They had a lot of energy on stage and they

got the crowd pretty pumped up.

*Side Note* All times after this point are a bit

hazy as I was not too apt to look at my watch.

Next up was Hot Rod Circut. I had never seen them

before and I was excited. They walked on stage

playing Irish Car Bomb. We had a good pit going

by this time and my cousin found some little 12

year old kid and had him get up on his shoulders.

The kid swung his arm back and his fore arm

nailed me right in the nose. Also some fat guy

was charging at my friend Lindsay so I had to

sacrifice my self and I took the blow. It sucked

but it earned me like 30 cool points!

After Hot Rod I took a glance at my watch and it

was 9:00.

Dashboard came out next. What Dashboard is, is a

one man acoustic group. Occasionally he will be

accompanied by a bass player and a drummer. The

crowd was not into it, but I love emo so I was

digging it. He was a cool guy and after his set

he was hanging out at the merch booth so I went

over and said hello to him. He signed my shirt.

Finally Alkaline Trio got on stage. They opened

with My Friend Peter, my personal favorite Trio

song. From there they played songs like Goodbye

Forever, and Private Eye. All was good until

Cooking Wine when some fat kid in a tank top came

running at me, punched me in the side of the

head, and knocked me on my ass. I was all shaky

so I went to the back of the club and sat down

with Lindsay for the rest of their set.

Yeah so that is a rough recap of my fun night at

the show. I hope to do a mini review of every

summer show I go to.

So I shall return next week with something that

is going to no doubt bore the crap out of

everyone.
