You are correct, 7 is above average. But, would you call an Average movie 'Alright?' It depends on your personal feelings of the word.
As a basis, let's start with an average score of 2.5. I would consider an average movie one which I thought had an equal amount of enjoyable parts and parts that I disliked. However, this movie, which I have deemed 'Alright' and given a score of 3.5, I felt had more enjoyable parts than the parts I thought sucked, or the good parts overpowered the bad ones. Moreover, if I found a movie to be worthy of a 5, it would have to be mainly comprised of goodness.
I don't know that this short little ramble has explained anything of my views, but while you are correct in stating that 7 is a higher number than 5, you must realize that I take the assumption as the writer that you realize that above average doesn't mean good.
