Phantasy Star Online turns 4! (PSO)

It was the winter of our discontent, early 2001. We had just heard the bad news, Sega was discontinuing the Dreamcast! But our sadness was short lived for just days later we were too busy playing Phantasy Star Online to care, much.

It was on January 30, 2001, that the game first shipped out here in the States. We were hooked, addicted for the next few months. Sometimes pulling all-nighters to vanquish the evil Dark Faltz and save the colony. And don't forget those swank PSO parties either! Good times. We can thank PSO for our boards first (of 3) surge in popularity.

That fall "Version 2" came out, but asked us to actually pay to play it online! Those dastards! Well, then when Xbox and GC came around, the new third-party Sega decided to take the series there, with a whole new episode and call it... PSO Episode 1 & 2! Who knew it would be GC's only online game? Of course we all know what happened next, Sonic Team created Episode 3 to our surprise, but delight, for GameCube... until we found out it was a card-battle game. In the end, it was a fairly fun game anyways.

Point is, PSO has been around for 4 years now. Amazing, huh. To celebrate this most celebrated time in the history of Nbrid, I have compiled an exhaustive list of articles and forum posts that pertained to the game and its being played online by us.
