I don't care what anyone says: Resident Evil '4' is a travesty because it's detrimental to the series: the developers have blatantly squatted and rubbed their rear against the Resident Evil series by taking an ill-written, un-atmospheric, action packed side game and trying to make it canon and trying to take it seriously.
There's nothing scary about the game at all because all atmospherics are smothered by the action packed incredulousness in the cut-scenes and the gameplay alone. The story can't be taken seriously at all by turning any and all returning characters into childish action packed idiots who fill out more stereotypes than characterizations they did from the games they starred in. And those antagonists?? My god, it's like Capcom took all the things that made Clock Tower '3' so ridiculous and added it to Resident Evil 4!
I can appreciate anyone who admires this game as nothing but a ridiculous, addictive action game, but to actually consider it a scary addition to the series is down right disgusting. Resident Evil 4 is one of the reasons why people these days won't accept any horror media unless it's jam packed so much with action and sex appeal BS and horribly written plots that any and all atmospherics are snuffed out.
What's scary about being surrounded and hounded by incessant human-like enemies? Nothing. It's obnoxious, especially when the camera zooms in on your shoulder and restricts your periphrial vision during combat.
And what else is there? Gore? Excessive gore doesn't make a survival horror game. Though it is getting a bit under-rated to have a gore-less horror game, the blood and gore doesn't make Resident Evil 4 scary as aside from one impalement, the majority of character deaths are minmal and head popping is so abundant its ridiculous: since when can you kick someone's head off?
Ashely puts any and all comic releif characters from any horror game or movie to shame with her sexist design: not only can she not climb down ladders on her own, she can't even protect herself from being picked up and hauled through what appear to be red-bordered portals that come out of nowhere.
And let's not forget how inhuman Leon has become: Not only has Capcom figured he'd become a crabby idiot, but he's somehow figured out how to jump from twenty foot ledges, land on his feet and walk UNHARMED.
Resident Evil 4 is the detriment of Survival Horror gaming.
PS: In case anyone intends on calling me a Noob: I admire all of the Resident Evil games before this mess and obviously disregarding the shooter based side stories (Gun Survivor and Dead Aim). I have the original uncut Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, 3 Nemesis and ,I'll admit as silly as some of it was, Code Veronica (which as far as I'm concerend is where Capcom should've stopped).
Anonymous: Resident Evil Sucks!
