Has Square completely bastardized Final Fantasy?

Maybe I worded that question wrong. Maybe I should have said How Badly
has Square Bastardized the Final Fantasy Series?
I remember a time back in 1994 when I was playing Final Fantasy 6 on
my SNES, and I was enjoying the game a lot. By a lot I mean I spent the
next year (and 150 hours) playing it. It drew me in like no other game
before it had.
I remember buying a PlayStation in 1996 because I had heard reports of
FF7 being on it. I was right, it was going to be on it, and it was going
to be great. I remember buying every new issue of Game Players (the best
VG mag ever) just to get a look at a rendered chocobo, or a shot of RedXIII.
"Oh man is this game going to rule," I thought. So I waited for a year
and a half and I finally got it. Was I disappointed? Hell no! I loved
it, and I logged over 200 hours on it easily. Then in about December of
1998 I saw my first shots of FF8. Once again I thought man this is going
to rule. Unfortunately, it didn't. I returned the game because it was
so bad.
In spring of 2000 I saw FF9 and I was worried. Didn't 8 JUST come out
I thought. It's way too early to hype this game, but hype it they did.
Luckily the game turned out to be a great one, one I still play today.
What's your point you ask? Well I was just reading an article saying FFX,
XI, and XII have all been announced, and all have set dates. WTF! Part
of the reason FF7 was so good was the year and a half build up. Square
is releasing FFX in the summer. Didn't IX just come out less that a year
ago??? It seems to me that today's gamer would buy anything marked Final
Fantasy. I mean some developer from Square could shit in a jewel case,
throw a FF logo on it, and some idiot would pay $50 bucks for it. Then
there is the remakes for the hand held systems. 1, 2, and 3 for Wonderswan;
4, 5, and 6 for GBA. You know what this means right? Ka-Ching for Square.
My final rant will be on Square making FFXI completely online. What for?
One of the reasons I love the Final Fantasy games so much is that I can
have the most powerful weapons. With an online game there's going to be
some level 89 guy killing my level 12 character with his Ultimate Weapon
while I am using my measly Mythral Dagger.
Well that's about it. In my opinion Square should get back to concentrating
on one game at a time, and make sure that it's the best game possible.
