Quote:The man behind Sonic the Hedgehog is making a GameCube platformer.
Sega announced today that Yuji Naka, the renowned creator of Sonic The Hedgehog, is currently hard at work on a game called Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. The game is the first new platformer created by Yuji Naka and SonicTeam since the days of the Sega Saturn.
Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is a story about a young boy who must save a once magical kingdom from the clutches an evil King who threatens to rule with an everlasting night. Gamers must learn to use the powers of a legendary suit and control magical eggs to restore light to the kingdom.
Gamers must hatch dozens of magical creatures from eggs as they explore themed environments. Gamers will roll the eggs through the worlds using them to solve puzzles, fight enemies, and ultimately hatch the creature inside. These creatures will enhance Billy's abilities.
"'Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg' is pure SONICTEAM magic," said Mike Fischer, vice president of marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "A dizzying blend of fast action, hypnotic gameplay and one-of-a-kind characters, 'Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg' is, without a doubt, the next big thing from the legendary SONICTEAM."
Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg" is scheduled to release this Fall.
Sonic Team is probably Sega's best development team (Smilebit coming in 2nd), so it's good to see something *NEW* out of them instead of just DC ports and Sonic. This could be a very interesting game. Maybe a way to redeem themselves after the sub-par Sonic Adventures. They might want to rename it though... Now I just wish we would see ChuChu Rocket 2 someday.
EDIT: Here's a stolen pic in case you were wondering what it looked like. Sources say it's closer in play style to Ape Escape then Sonic. Edited by: BoneStormer at: 4/14/03 10:47:58 pm

First of all, the sonic adventure games are great, though the knuckles levels arent too fun and the shooting ones were merely good.
Anyway, I too am glad there is something NEW from Sega aside from an upgraded PSO and Soccer Slam. Ive played a little ape escape and I hear it's a damned good game. Bring on E3.
