Well, it seems for the 6 months ending Sept 2003, Nintendo will post it's first net loses ever. They had predicted profits of 25 billon yen in that span (which already was lower then previous expectations), but instead will face a lose of 7 billon yen (~63 million USD).

Call me crazy, but I think this is great news for us gamers! Especially Nintendio fans. No more can we here cries that no matter what we think of Nintendo's practises, they are still making a profit, since it's now been shown that's no longer a guarantee. Things have to change. Which explains a lot IMO. I was wondering were this sudden agressiveness came from. Not just the price drop but the big ad campaigns. Nintendo has seen the light! Hopefully this is the start of the Nintendo they promised us would come with the launch of the GC. Since now they have no choice but to change.

As an aside, who wants to bet every anti-Nintendo fan touts this as the end of Nintendo?

I dont know if you read the whole thing bone, but they posted losses because the price drop was actually supposed to take place around the same time as the PS2 and Xbox price drops. Also a large part of this profit loss is because of the sink in the yen's value. Something like this probably wouldn't affect Sony as much.

Anyway I do agree that such a loss can only be good because it will bring on more aggressiveness. Oh, you also state that anti-Nintendo people will tout this as the the end. Well that reminded me of when my manager up here in Mass stated that he wouldnt be surprised if Nintendo just closed shop on Gamecube this winter. He's...well he's a moron. He tried to discourage some kids from getting one and said he personally did not like the system. The kids got it anyway but then when I talked to this other guy about purchasing a system for his son, I convinced him a GC is a much better choice than a PS2. The kid played the Viewtiful Joe demo for like an hour!

I've gone off track. Sin, Twin Snakes was delayed because of development. It would take a grade A moron to delay a game from a holiday release to an early 2004 date just because they wanted to spread out releases.

Finally, here is the official stance Nintendo has on their newfound success in gamecube sales:

-Nintendo

Blame it on the exchange rates. Blame it on Nintendo dragging their feet yet again. Blame it on poor sales of GC. They are all part of it. But the bottom line remains the same, they lost money for the first time ever basically. Since GB is as strong as ever for the most part, it shows they messed up in their handeling of GC. (FYI: CNN has different numbers then GF first posted money.cnn.com/2003/10/03/...ndo.reut/)

And good job perpetuating the GC is for kids myth! Though saying it's the best system for his kid did get you another sale.

IGN has given VJ a 9.5! I'm always wearing of IGN reviews (since they in general give console exclusive, highly hyped games, a higher score then they desererve, and not just Cube), but good news so you don't have to play the demo somehow for an hour straight...
