Speaking of Metal Gear... I picked up my MGS4 preorder today. And... yeah, that's pretty much it for now. At least until I think the 21st when the MG online beta starts...

And now I've downloaded the MGO... Huh, when I went to start it, it said I needed to download an update. That's pretty dumb...

Also, Super Stardust has an add-on that I'm tempted to get since Stardust is still the best PSN game and it's only 5 bucks (though the full game only cost me 8...). I went to play it again and it made me download a new update as well. Not sure what's all new except there is now an easy mode for arcade...

let me know if its worth downloading since it really didn't seem like it from the description.

Online rankings for Ikaruga have rejuvinated my love for the game. What's more, I actually play for a high score now since there's actually a reason now. I loaded up my old gamecube save just to see my old top score. It was around 1.6 million. Right now my top score is 3.9 million. I need to surpass 4.4 very soon...

Worth downloading? It's a chance to play Metal Gear Online. That sure sounds worth it to me...

That said, I spent almost an hour waiting for the original download from PSN. Then for the update, I first tried via http. Server error. I tried via torrent, and right now it's 80% done and has been running an hour. Then I still need a Konami user (which I read is the hardest part...). So considering all that, it gets iffy. But assuming they have it fixed by Monday to get the Konami name, and it's not like it's much of my own time (I don't sit and watch it download), it will be worth it to try out MGO.

I'll have to download the MGO beta within the next couple days...maybe tomorrow. I wish I could download stuff while I played a PS2 game.

So Mario Kart Wii is here. I feel like a 5 year old playing with that thick plastic wheel...

The game itself is pretty solid. Not great, but not bad. Though I do have two MAJOR gripes that almost ruin offline multiplayer (the MAIN reason to play the game). First they require 12 karts, so that means at least 8 CPU players. And then for battle they require you to play as teams. Bah! If they would have changed that, and doing that should have been easy, I think I would have been quite happy with the game. As it is, it's fun but probably won't last as long as the classic Mario Karts. We'll see...

I can't help but think there's some way to turn off cpu karts. I remember with the other mario karts, I always wanted to be able to turn cpu karts ON. Now I just want them gone. Battle mode isnt worth playing either. Too many damn karts at once doesn't make the mode any better.

As far as the actual game is concerned, I prefer double dash. I'll never understand why so many people hate it. Mario Kart DS is probably the best in the series at this point and it's too bad we couldn't get a console kart that lives up to it.

While I'm here, I'll just say that "the world ends with you" is possibly one of the best DS games I have ever played. I think the real shocking thing here is that squeenix made a great game thats NOT a traditional rpg. It's got the storytelling and leveling of an rpg, but the gameplay utilizes touch screen motions and button presses at the same time. It's hectic at first, but you get used to it. The first part of the game is incredibly emo though. $40 seems like a lot for a DS game, but at least you can tell this game had a budget to warrant such a price.

Ok, turns out there is a way to turn off CPU karts in the "rules", but you're still stuck as battle teams... I don't hate double dash, but I just thought they could have done more besides the gimmicky double thing. And again on Wii, the song is the same. This time it's a gimmicky wheel attachment. Why doesn't this series get the same love as Smash Bros? Just fix the team issue I mention and add maybe 16 more classic tracks (and/or downloadable tracks), and it would be way better than DD. As it is, it's about the same.

On another note, I recently replayed MGS2 and it was a lot better than I recalled. Still think some of the story elements are lame (Vamp, Raiden...), but whatever. Damn good game. Next up before MGS4 hits is Snake Eater...

I tend to mash LEFT or RIGHT depending on how many guys are on which side at the start of a battle. Bosses are a little more complicated because they either move around a lot or do tons of damage with a simple move. I got myself to play on hard with a level 15 multiplier, but I'm near the end and there's just too many surprise encounters that are a pain on hard.

I totally did NOT set up 4 DS's at work to host pictochat and then repeatedly go into mingle mode for 100 pp a pop. (The download station DS counts as the 5th one) But it doesn't matter because I didn't do that from 10 to 11:30 am this morning.

Certain pins level up in certain ways so it's a little frustrating that the game doesn't give you ANY idea how to evolve them. Aside from that, it's very good and POSSIBLY the best DS game to date, there I said it.

Well I got echochrom off PSN. It has a few issues, I can't quite seem to figure out when I can and cannot line up paths, but it's cool and fun. It's also quite challenging... though Monsters still frustrates me more. Why did I get that Encore expansion when I'm not halfway through the first game?

I've become quite a fan of these downloadable games, as my 8 PSN games to 2 Blurays attest. They are simple, but usually are more creative and fun than the disk based ones. At least the good ones are.

And now WiiWare starts... Defend Your Castle has my name all over it.

LAME! I've never bought anything off Wii yet, I just did since WiiWare is open (downloading Castle right now!), but the damn thing charges tax. WTF?!?! No one else does... damn you Nintendo, I want that 55 cents back. It's lame enough I have to buy in $10 increments...

Oh well, now to see how this is.

Edit: So the first 5 levels are quite easy, I'm sure it will pick up, but also so far this is pretty cool...

Edit 2: It starts to pick up around level 10, the first 10 are quite boring but I guess that's so you can build up resources, the game picks up quite a bit soon after... It's nice how you can save after every stage, but there's no high score table:(

As of last week's Nintendo Channel update, I've had to start deleting/moving files to make room. I had to get rid of all of Nintendo's stupid little channels like "check mii out" and 'everybody votes." I also had to get rid of the Mario Kart channel before EVER USING EVER! I freed up a very nice chunk of space in the process but yesterday I downloaded a virtual console game I'd been putting off for a while (Lords of Thunder) and I'm now back to a measely 150 or so blocks of space left. Luckily that Lost Winds game doesn't look that great or I would have had to figure something out to make space again. But oh crap, Earthbound will be coming out soon....sigh.

DAMN YOU SMASH BROS AND YOUR ENORMOUS GAME SAVE THAT I CANT JUST LOAD OFF A CARD!!!! Also damn me and my love for shmups and having to download almost every single one.

Keeping on topic, I finally decided to play MGS3 and I FUCKING SUCK. God I knew I sucked at games that require patience and complicated control schemes but I really wasnt having any fun with it. Maybe now that I've decided to actually hurt the enemies I'll have some fun. Stupid deteriorating tranquiler...

I really can't relate, I have over 1000 blocks free still and I have all those "useless" channels installed. Though if WiiWare continues to push out stuff I want, I could see it quickly become a problem... Can you at least save these things to a SD card? I mean a 2 gig SD card is 20-30 bucks. So wow, 0.5 in Wii? Come on Nintendo, what was that $250 for again?

I always have a hard time starting a MGS game since I'm so anal and the slightest thing doesn't go as planned and I just die and start again... though running to a new area and dying so the Alert status resets works as well... Low rank at the end? I care because?

Man echochrome is tough. Not PJ Monsters hard, but close.
