Does anyone possibly know who gets possession in a football game after halftime? How is it deterred? |

It's complicated... well, no. But best I know...
Before the game the winner of the coin toss has 3 choices:
1) Start on offense with the ball
2) Pick which direction to go on the field to start
3) Defer your choice to the second half
If Team A wins the toss and picks 1, team B will start the second half with the ball. If team A picks 2, then they will start with the ball the second half. If team A picks 3, well then who gets the ball first second half depends on if team A wants the ball first or wants to pick the direction of play then.
In NFL the coin toss winner usually picks 1, and so team B gets it second half. In college they usually defer.
