Sony I Say Thee Nay!!

In four weeks I will be receiving my Playstation 2. Have I mentioned I'm not excited at all. Sure it can do all kinds of pretty things, but I spent a month or so deciding if I'd even buy a launch title. Other than a poor launch again, I think Sony put together a poor system, but this time the whole world was watching. When the original Playstation was released I don't think people were expecting anything. So it was accepted with open arms. This time however they didn't have that luxury. Lets be frank, we've all seen the jaggies, and we've all heard the problems about developing for the system. While I'm not very fluent with technical specs, I know enough to say this isn't the technical juggernaut it was supposed to be. Do developers really want to learn a new language for a system they cant even get maximum results from? With the rumors about the GameCube and XBox being so developer friendly, where would you rather be?

Now I'll mention the launch titles. I mean lack of. Tekken, great, but what was that, Soul Caliber still looks better? Scratch that from my list. A bunch of subpar RPGs, hey isn't Mask of Majora coming out the day the PS2 hits? Scratch that. Ridge Racer, well they got that. Madden? Umm NFL2K1 is still better? Scratch that. Me? I'm going with Kessen and assorted DVDs. When is the next big game coming? I don't know that either. With games like Zelda, FF9, and Shenmue around the corner do we really need this thing.

The Dreamcast just dropped to 149.99, has solid games, and a already large installed user base. The Cube a year away too long? Not for Metroid, Mario, and a new Zelda game. Even convincing old PSX owners to buy PS2 is going to be tough, with such a large library of titles, and almost zero hardcore gamers who really don't care about it. Am I buying a PS2? Yes, it will have its gems. Am I looking forward to it? No! All in all its a decent system, not great. It has a couple of decent games at launch (that's 3 I mean). But nothing in the next month or two. Finally they got Sega to compete with now. Nintendo breathing down their necks (looking strong I might add). And Microsoft waiting in the corner to attack like a wild dingo. The system will sell, the system will have its share of good games, and it will be impressive. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna be proud of the machine!
