Free ISPs - Advanced MethodIf none of the methods on the previous page worked, and you still want to use a different free ISP over your Dreamcast, try out these methods. It may also help you to setup such ISPs as MSN. Thanks to dreamcast_128 on IGN's boards for this information.
Note: Free ISPs often upgrade their login software which changes the 'real' login name and/or password. So if you get an error message that says login/password not accepted, you may need to download the newest version of their software (or login using the software you have on your PC since many upgrade automatically), and repeat the above steps. Note for Juno users: If the login is too long, you can take out -level3 (xxx@jweb-level3.juno.com -> xxx@jweb.juno.com), but this is still too long for use in Quake III Arena. Step 1: On your computer: Download the free ISP of your choice. If you already have an ISP, skip this step. Try http://www.juno.com. Step 2: On your computer: Install the needed software. Follow the directions. Hopefully you can all do this. Once again, if you have an ISP, skip this step. Step 3: On your computer: Create a Shortcut on your desktop. You may have already made one while installing, so that is fine. Make sure you are creating the shortcut for the program (probably in the "program files" directory). Step 4: On your Computer: Download rasspy.exe (turn off any download managers if having problems downloading). (For more information on this program see Palm Notes - Free ISPs and Password Recovery Spy. Use at your own risk.) Step 5: On your computer: Unzip rasspy (using winzip http://www.winzip.com). Step 6: On your Computer: Copy rasspy.exe into "C:\Windows\System32\". Step 7: On your Computer: Go to that icon you made in Step 3, right click and choose "Properties", and then click on the "Shortcut" tab. Step 8: On your Computer: Add: C:\windows\system32\rasspy cmd= in front of the "C:\Program Files\" (in front of the quotes), or whatever is already in the 'Target' slot. Step 9: On your computer: Now the icon should say UCF (if it doesn't, this still may work). Run the program, and click "connect". It will echo back your actual phone#, user name, and password. User/password will probably be looong. Write all this info down EXACTLY as it appears (it's case-sensitive). Step 10: On your computer: Go online with your free ISP. When on, click on the start menu (bottom left of your screen), and select "Run". Type: "WINIPCFG". Click "OK". Then another window comes up. Click "More Info" (bottom right). It says "DNS Servers" (towards the top), write down the first set of numbers as DNS1, then press "...". If there is another set, write that down as DNS2. If there's nothing, just leave it as zeros. Step 11: On your Dreamcast: Pop in your web-browser. It doesn't matter which version. Press start and choose "Options", "Internet Options", and enter your user/pass, phone#, DNS1, DNS2, etc. Use lowercase letters (unless rasspy said otherwise). Click done, done, done, save. Step 12: On your Dreamcast, you are back at the main menu. Click connect. Did it work? YAY!!! Step 1: Sign-up for the ISP of your choice (for example Juno), and install it on your PC. Step 2: Download DialGuard (turn off any download managers if having problems downloading) and unzip it to your hardrive (using winzip http://www.winzip.com). Step 3: Run dialguard.exe. It should appear minimized in your tray (next to the clock in the lower right). Step 4: Run the ISP you are using, and enter in your user name and password. Hit 'connect', and a box should pop-up with your "real" login name, password, and phone number. Write these down (it's case sensitive). Step 5: Enter this information into your DC WebBrowser (in 'Options'). If you don't have the DNS numbers, just use 0.0.0.0 for DNS 1 and 2. For the phone number, don't use any letters that may be before the number. You could also check the providers webpage for access numbers and DNS numbers. Method 3 - PPP Log Method 3 uses the PPPLOG.txt. What you do is click Start (in the lower left of Windows) -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network. Double click Dial-up Adapter. Go to advance. See where it says record a log file? Set the value to YES. Restart your PC. Run Juno or other ISP. Then after you connect, disconnect. Open PPPlog.txt (do a search in explorer or use Start -> Find). Search for a @ symbol. If it's Juno, the username would look something like ujryte34htdh@junoweb.juno.com, and the password is RIGHT after the period. The password would be like ujhytegrd43df or whatever. Thats it!
