In the charade of the Dreamcast, and its sadly premature death the gaming
communities focus seems to be set on the death of the Dreamcast. Now while
I loved my DC just as much as any other self respecting gamer, I would
like to turn everyone's attention on two systems who are also pretty much
dead for all purposes. That's right people, I'm talking about the Nintendo
64, and the Sony Playstation.

Both of these systems have lived out their lives (not always to the fullest)
and now in the year 2001 its time to lay them to rest. Both the N64 and
Psx are receiving very few games lately and it shall soon dwindle down
to unknown companies making variations of puzzle games, or crappy platformers
starring strange characters. Now that the Ps2 is in full force, and the
Gamecube is ready to take over, their older brothers must take a backseat,
but lets not forget what these systems have brought to the table.

NINTENDO64

***********

The Nintendo 64 if not anything else help such legends such as Mario
and Link stay in the public eyes, and with very good games I may add.
N64 took the idea of multiplaying goodness and stuck four controller ports
on the system, being the first to do so. To accompany these ports such
great multiplayer games such as Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark,
and Super Smash Bros brought friends together for hours of fun. The N64
is really the system that made same house multiplaying a hit. If nothing
else I thank the N64 for Goldeneye, which me and my friends played for
a good 2 years before getting tired. GE even made one friend who will
remain nameless quit basketball tryouts so that he could play it after
school. The N64 brought on a fierce gaming orgy (giggles). Along with
great legends, the N64 was the birth of a new one in the firm of a squirrel.
Yes, I'm speaking of Conker, who's game if only for awhile took Nintendo
out of the kiddy light, and showed they weren't the same company that
denied blood in Mortal Kombat, although blood had long been put into a
game on a Nintendo system way before Conker. The N64 will also be known
for taking favorite franchises into 3-D. Everything from Mario to Castlevania.
Although not the best nintendo system, and upsets like the parting of
Square the N64 shined, and it will be remembered.

Sony Playstation

*********************

The Sony Playstation was the first game system to be released by Sony,
and although many people had doubts, the Playstation proved everyone wrong
in spades. It also has one of the best names in my opinion. Its straight
to the point. The Playstation for better or worse made gaming more mainstream.
The Psx breathed life into the music games such as Parrapa the Rapper,
and Dance Dance Revolution. Great franchises such as Final Fantasy and
Metal Gear Solid become instant hits. New characters such as Crash, Lara,
and Spyro were born, and new franchises such as Resident Evil, Tomb Raider,
and Klonoa were created, and continue on today. The system also brought
console game piracy to the full front, whether you liked it or not. With
the Playstation Sony put themselves in a great spot which has leaked over
to the already released PS2. Sony has given hope to new companies such
as Microsoft, and like Nintendo, Sony is here to stay.
