As 'NOG' approaches its 22-and-a-half-month anniversary, what better time than now to look at the stories that have gotten the most use? So we here at NBrid bring you the top 30 NOG articles of all-time, based on views.

It should be noted that we only began keeping track with the 'launch' of NOG (08/25/02). So any articles pre-NOG (Evo and earlier) are at a disadvantage. That said, clearly, and unfortunately, for whatever reason the site has gotten more visitors since then. The rise in visitors can in large part be attributed to the rise of Google as the most popular search engine. Also pre-Nog sites weren't very search engine friendly, even if they looked so much cooler (well, Evo did at least). And obviously, the older an article is, the more chance there is of people reading it.

So let's begin. The top 30 most viewed articles (as of 7/13/04):

  1. Tupac dead?... Tupac IS dead.
[Date: 12/30/02 - Author: Danni and Kris]
One of these had to be #1. So why not this one.
  2. Biggie involved in Tupac's death?
    [Date: 9/7/02 - Author: Bonestormer]
The one that started it all. I blame myself.

  6. Reno 911!
    [Date: 7/23/03 - Author: Psydd]
Good call on this story. The most popular article over the past 2 months with season 2 now airing. It almost outranked Tupac searches during that time... almost, sigh.

No, this isn't an Evo article. But it is Final Fantasy. And it is nerdy. Face it, X-Play is right.
  14. StarFox Adventure Preview

    [Date: 10/2/02 - Author: Bonestormer]
Interesting how the preview has done so much better that the actual review. Sort of like expectations versus the actual game... Who wants to do the preview of Star Fox 2?
  19. E3'03: News Conferences
    [Date: 5/13/03 - Author: Bonestormer]
E3 stuff does well. This year's is already moving up the list pretty fast. Will it ever overtake '03's? No. Or will it? No, probably not.
  20. E3'03: Pre-Game Blowout part 1
    [Date: 4/21/03 - Author: Bonestormer]

  28. Zelda: Wind Waker - The Impressions
    [Date: 3/26/06 - Author: Bonestormer]
After a certain dead rapper and a cop show in Nevada, Zelda related articles seem to do the best overall.
  29. Diablo 2 for Dummies: How to Play
    [Date: 6/11/01 - Author: Frink]
The only other Evo article to make the list (barely), and by far the oldest article to make it. I don't know why...
  30. What am Animal Crossing?
    [Date: 10/17/02 - Author: Bonestormer]
To quote Marge Simpson, "I'm so fucking embarrassed."

Well there you have it. Looking at this list it looks like articles from September - October 2002 are doing by far the best. Though those have been around much longer so it's hard to tell the reason for it. Only time will tell if newer articles will pass them up. I was going to post the hard numbers, but they arn't very accurate. They are only good for getting a very 'rough idea' of how well something has done (numerous restores and other reasons skew the results). But in that list they range from nearly 10,000 to well over 1,000 views for even the lowest ranked article.

Since Evo articles are at a disadvantage, below I listed the top 12 articles from the Evo-era (and earlier) that have done the best since the launch of NOG.

  1. Final Fantasy XI FAQ
  2. Diablo 2 for Dummies: How to Play
  3. Counter-Strike 1.4
  4. Inside the First Person Shooter: Control Methods
  5. Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage
