E3 didn't have many 'surprises' really. What it did show off though was a number of really great games. Nintendo had a really good showing overall, but it couldn't top id Software's Doom III (PC) which won 'Best of Show'. I think we are all highly anticipating that one. But Nintendo took runner-ups in this category with their upcoming Zelda GC. Let's take a quick look at the rest of the winners.

Nintendo took the award for 'Best Console Game' though, again with Zelda. While I wasn't to thrilled with the cel-shaded look at first, it does look amazing. This is one of the three games I really want on GC now. I mean come on, it's Zelda! The Getaway (PS2) took runner-up honors in this category.

Best Hardware went to Nintendo's wireless controller, the WaveBird. I don't get it either. It doesn't have rumble. Pass.... (Runner-up was Capcom's Steel Battalion Controller for Xbox.)

While Best Action/Adventure went to Splinter Cell (multi), Super Mario Sunshine won runner-up honors. This is a wide category seeing as how games as different as these two are won it. Also, Metroid Prime took runner-up in Best Action game, to Doom III of course. These two Nintendo games comprise the list of the three most wanted GC games. With Metroid topping that list of course. Even though GC's overall selection is horrible, hopefully these handful of games will make up for it.

The biggest surprise (or disapointment) was seeing Xbox take both spots for Best Orginal Game. In first was Psychonauts with second place going to the interesting Blinx: The Time Sweeper. The idea of 'rewinding' your game does sound intreging. I may have to get an Xbox afterall. (Mainly for online play though.)

Also of note is Super Monkey Ball 2 which won Best Puzzle game. I can't wait for that one. SMB is still probably my favorite overall GC game.
