Video game "enhancers (I use the term loosely)

have been around for quite a long time. Dating

back to the Game Genie for the NES these devices

have let gamers achieve higher scores, get rare

items, and beat impossible levels. Now if someone

wants to ruin a gaming experience by resorting to

cheating in a one player game or even a two

player game that is fine by me. My problem is

with the new wave of cheaters that not only feel

the need to cheat but they ruin the game for the

rest of us by using these enhancers online.

Yes I know there are other ways of cheating

online. For instance there was the duping glitch

in PSO and if you go on the AFO servers you are

bound to see a kid sitting in a 1 on 1 room

fighting a computer controlled opponent just to

increase his rank. While I do not condone any

form of online cheating at least some thought

went into these methods. With products like

InterAct's GameShark, cheating has been taken to

the next level.

How frustrating is it to join an AFO game only to

see "Aliens Win" flash across the screen after

three seconds of gameplay. Yes GameShark makes it

possible for instant wins online. Also have you

ever been blasting away at a tank yet it never

seems to die? That would be another GameShark

induced enhancement. PSO is a whole other level

with codes for PKing, and the infamous Black

Screen Of Death (BSOD). Ever play Quake 3 or UT,

pick up a weapon with unlimited ammo, and wonder

what the hell was going on? The answer to that

would be GameShark.

Now that the problem has been identified the real

question lies before us. What are developers

planning on doing about this? SEGA tried to fight

back by banning people from the PSO server. I

don't think I really need to tell you how great

the success rate for this one was.

In my opinion game developers and the makers of

such enhancers have to come to some sort of

agreement or arrangement so that once a console

signs on to an online gaming server any game

enhancing products are disabled.

Why did I write this rant? Well let's just say I

got back from a very frustrating AFO outing

involving never ending games, quick wins,

unbeatable enemies, and other online hijinks.

I honestly hope this issue is addressed soon because

in all honesty it really is ruining online gaming to

the point where it isn't even worth playing

anymore.

Well that's about it. Let's hope that something is

done about these people that are either too lazy

to get good at a game, or just suck at videogames in

general so that us true gamers can get back to

what we do best.

Note from Hybrid: Yeah that's happened to me too,

the shooting someone else and they don't die,

but that is rarely caused by a Gameshark. It happens

all the time mainly because of lag. I was playing a

capture the flag game and people were missing me all

over and they said they hit me. They went on to say I

was using Gameshark and got pissed. What the hell can

I say over a scratchy voice chat system? They didn't

believe me but I didn't have one. Never-ending games are

a glitch. Remember a game we had that never ended? I

was in Tokyo with Wade for like 10 minutes just

talking and getting hit by the train. As for UT and Q3A,

those games are played entirely on a server and so there is

no way to cheat using a Gameshark. However I'm sure

those Gameshark issues are a pain in the ass.
