That was a close one... we were almost shut down!

I'm sure everyone here keeps up with the latest tech news so you were probably aware of this well before I was. Well yesterday I was perusing Digg when I saw a story on RegisterFly. Seems RegisterFly, which I had been using to register our domain nbrid.net, has had some "issues" over the past month (some say year). Some of these "issues" included people losing their domain names, names not being renewed on time and users having to pay $160 to get them back, not to mention customer support has been AWOL for ages. Uh-oh...

PS3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Wii: The battle to see who sucks the least

I just don't know what to do... The PS3, while a technological marvel, lacks heart, and games. Coming soon the 360 will have a number of sweet sci-fi shooters, FPS games, and, umm, that's about as diverse as it gets. The Wii? Well, let's just say graphics arn't everything. Much like how ugly people say looks arn't everything.

The Con-trasing games of 2005

Our good pal Nick (you know, that guy who started Nbrid but sold the rights to Conn for a toolbox of M&Ms...) has put up his "Top Games of 2005". Makes IGN's list look like crap. What can I say, I just like the Verdana font more than Tahoma.

Here's a snipit: "Genres continue to expand and I find it very hard to differentiate action, adventure, and platforming games. So basically I am putting games in the categories that they stand out the most."

50+ people donate to buy an Xbox360 at launch and smash it

Over 50 people made donations to reach a goal of $430 (which they exceeded by a small amount) so that the owners of SmashMyXbox.com could buy an Xbox360 at midnight launch and smash it with a sledgehammer in front of a line of waiting customers. Their plan was a success, achieving their goal with just four days to spare.

The owners of the site say they'll post a short video tomorrow and a longer one in a few days. There are also a few pictures of the smashed console so you can see the damage. I can imagine how shocked and maybe even angered the 360 fans waiting in line were at the sight of their new God being smashed to bits, with full knowledge that there aren't enough units to meet the demand of hopeful buyers. I hope the entertainment is worth it.

Spike TV 2005 Video Game Farce, err Awards...

Some of you may recall an article I posted two years ago on the first ever Spike TV Video Game Awards. Suffice to say I didn't walk away with anything close to a positive impression. When the 2004 awards were held, I didn't bother to watch. Fast forward to 2005, and I didn't even know they were still holding this thing. Why?!

Seems under the cover of darkness, they taped the show recently, and based on a GameSpot posting, nothing has changed. Just look at the list of winners (I'd add a spoiler tag since the show hasn't aired yet... but yeah, why?)

The Drupaling of NBrid is complete! ...almost

So you're probably thinking... what the? Where did the NBrid I know and love go? I hate to break it to you, but that NBrid never existed. However, we did ditch the 'old' script we used for the site in favor of this new and improved Drupal! I mean if it's good enough for The Onion, it's good enough for us!

I must warn you, it isn't "complete". I'm sure there will be several glitches as this change over takes place. Plenty of nice 404 Not Found errors to be sure. That said, I did my best to make sure old links will still work. So if you have a link to an old NBrid story (I'm looking at you Tupac...), it should automatically redirect you to it's new Drupal node version. Man I'm good...

Sure there will be information on games coming this year, and maybe the announcement of new games for PS2/Xbox/GameCube, but face it, what we all want to hear/see more about is the coming Next Generation.

Nbrid's 5 Year Anniversary (DVD?)

The 5-year anniversary is traditionally the wood anniversary (I kid you not), but not here at Nbrid! We do it in style, DVD style. While we actually began in April 2000, we will celebrate it right this June.

It's official! Nbrid visitors' taste in games SUCK! Well, that was a little harsh. In fact, many of these I agree with. But not all. So I stand by what I said. What can you do about it? Cry? Hack us? HA!

As season 2 winds down this show is as popular as ever, maybe even more. Now that everyone knows that this show is a comedic smash and not just a fluke, it's pretty widely understood that there will be a third season. But when?

**Also, a special look back at Season 2!**

This is a sad day. Vivendi Universal Games, who currently owns Sierra, announced that they were shutting down Sierra's Seattle headquarters in a "restructuring move", and that Sierra would live on in name only.
