Hell hath frozen over: The Nintendo DS Lite Cometh

Sigh, what have I done. Am I going to wake up tomorrow with a nasty hangover of buyer's regret? Maybe, but probably not. What I do know though is I'm sure to hear about this from the many people I proclaimed DS's "lameness" to, and that is quite a long list.

It's actually even worse than that. Not only have I gone on a two year long DS bashing vendetta, I've held a life long anti-handheld philosophy. I've never owned a handheld before. The pathetic "graphics" and overly simplistic gameplay didn't interest me in the least. So have times changed or have I?

How I learned to stop hating and love the Nintendo DS...

Anyone who has been paying attention to the ongoings in our forum as of late know all about the mounting tension between the DS lovers (er lover) and all those that think 10 year old technology on a tiny screen just doesn't sound like much fun. It didn't help that the DS itself had no style whatsoever. Is it too much to ask that something you carry around not look like crap? Apparently so. Until the DS lite that is...

Much like the Revolution, Nintendo finally saw fit to make a machine that isn't painful to look at. Sure it is still based on decade old tech specs, but this is a portable device. I really don't care to play Resident Evil or Metal Gear Solid on the go. Give me wifi Tetris, Mario Kart, Advanced Wars, and a New Super Mario Bros. any day over those. If only Sega would wake up and give us what we all want, Chu Chu Rocket. But there is another reason why I've changed my stance on the DS.

This year's expo at the Los Angeles convention center was a little different than it has even been before. The most significant difference was that I WAS THERE! (Reprinted with implied oral permission from Con-Trast)

I've never been a big Game Boy fan, but recently I had the opportunity to extensively play a GBA. Did my opinion change? No. But that said, there are 5 games that defy this. Games that not only GBA owners should play, but gamers in general.
